    The practice of technical examination, documentation and treatment of objects of material culture with the intention of improving the condition of artifacts by stabilizing physical conditions rising from deterioration and damage. Conservation may at times require restoration which compensates for physical losses to allow proper visual interpretation of the object by recapturing an acceptable esthetic appearance. Art conservation includes preservation which involves prevention of damage and reducing the rate of deterioration of cultural objects.
