Matte, glossy paint and everything in-between
How to Oil Out and Correct your Paintings with Varnish
Free webinar gives you the skills to overcome these issues in painting
Matte, glossy and irregular sheen on an oil painting can disfigure its appearance. The irregular sheen on the paint surface often results in patchy gloss after varnish is applied. How to fix this on an existing painting and how to avoid it in the future is presented in this free webinar.
An irregular sheen on an oil painting is often linked to paint with high pigment volume concentration (PVC), which occurs when oil in freshly applied paint “sinks” into the underlying substrate. “Sinking in” is a common phenomenon among oil painters, and is one of the most frequently encountered issues while teaching artists in Painting Best Practices.
In the webinar we examine the causes of sinking. We discuss the common practice of “oiling out” (or sometimes “oiling in”), and its disadvantages. The webinar presents the best practices to correct irregular sheen, how to select and apply varnish, and get the best results in your art.
