Group Description

A paint made from pigment mixed with melted beeswax and other substances, such as resin, and applied to a surface by melting the paint by heat. Although not true encaustic, cold wax and saponified waxes are also used in painting, the former based on wax dissolved in hydrocarbon solvents and the latter is wax emulsified in water.
